Fair Usage Policy

Introduction The purpose of this Fair Usage Policy (FUP) is to ensure a high-quality, fast, and stable internet connection for all our users during their stay in Greece. To prevent network abuse that could impact the experience of other users on local telecommunication networks, Meraki.eSIM applies the following rules regarding the use of our data packages.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

1. Limits for "Unlimited" Data Packages Our unlimited data packages are designed for normal, everyday personal use while traveling (web browsing, social media, navigation, and communication).

  • Speed Threshold: To protect network capacity, after consuming 2GB of data at maximum speed (4G/5G), the internet speed will be throttled to 384 kbps.

  • The reduced speed is sufficient for basic text messaging (WhatsApp, Viber) and email, but it will not support high-quality video streaming or the downloading of large files.

  • The internet speed automatically regenerates to maximum speed 24 hours after the moment it was throttled.

2. Internet Sharing (Hotspot / Tethering) Using a personal mobile hotspot is allowed, but the data consumed via the hotspot is subject to the same fair usage rules and limits stated above. Sharing the internet connection with multiple devices simultaneously for continuous video streaming (e.g., Netflix, YouTube) or downloading massive files is strictly restricted.

3. Prohibited Activities To maintain network integrity, the following activities are strictly prohibited when using our eSIM service:

  • Using the eSIM profile for commercial purposes or as a permanent replacement for a home fixed-line internet connection.

  • Continuous downloading or uploading of excessively large files, including P2P networks and torrents.

  • Using the profile in non-smartphone or non-tablet devices (e.g., routers, IoT devices, M2M hardware) without our prior approval.

  • Any form of spamming, cyberattacks, or illegal online activities in accordance with the laws of Greece and the European Union.

4. Network Management and Congestion During the peak summer tourist season, local telecommunication networks in Greece can experience exceptionally high loads. Our network partners reserve the right to temporarily manage traffic to prevent network outages. This may result in variations in internet speed in densely populated tourist areas, islands, or beaches.

5. Measures Upon Policy Violation If Meraki.eSIM detects usage that drastically exceeds the norms of an average roaming user or violates the rules stated above, we reserve the right to:

  • Restrict or drastically reduce data speeds without prior notice.

  • Temporarily or permanently suspend the eSIM service.

  • Note: Services suspended due to a violation of this Fair Usage Policy are not eligible for a refund.
